We have a great opportunity for Native English speakers to have
a great experience teaching in public schools in Korea. You
would be teaching in local public schools either in Seoul or in
the surrounding Gyeonggi province and throughout Korea. I hope that we will
have a chance to work together.
These positions offer better benefits such as less teaching hours,
teacher training and a relocating fee. Also, public school teachers
get more respect and experience through working in a professional
school environment.
Below are the working conditions. Korean Pubic school's
new semester open for March and September. The schools are
located in Gyeonggido area and Seoul. Please email us with your

Public
school offers its participants
comfortable living conditions. In addition to monthly salary, many
other benefits available for public school members are housing, medical insurance,
tax exemption, settlement allowance and pension fund. You
are eligible for severance pay after the completion of 1 year contract
according to Korean Labor Standards Law.
REMUNERATION
Salaries will be paid in Korean currency corresponding to the
appropriate levels of employment:
First Level ELI : 2,200,000 won per month. Second Level ELI : 1,900,000 - 2,000,000 won per month. Third Level ELI : 1,800,000 won per month.
There are three levels of employment for public school, and all applicants
must have the following basic requirements:
1) Hold at least a Bachelor's degree. 2) Be a citizen of one of the six major English speaking countries:
Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or
the United States of America. 3) Be mentally and
physically healthy. 4) Have a good command of the English language. 5) Have the ability and willingness to adapt to Korean culture
and living.
First Level ELI (English Language Instructor)
In addition to the basic requirements, a 1st Level ELI must have
one of the following:
- A Teacher's Certificate,
for Elementary or Secondary school, with at least two years of full
time teaching experience at accredited institutions or a Teacher's
Certificate with 100 weeks experience with public school. - A TESOL/TEFL Certificate
comprised of a minimum of 100 course hours with at least two years
of full time teaching experience at accredited institutions or a
TESOL/TEFL Certificate comprised of a minimum of 100 course hours
with 100 weeks experience with public school. - A Master's degree
with at least two years full time teaching experience at accredited
institutions or a Master's degree with 100 weeks experience with
public school.
Second Level ELI
In addition to the basic requirements, a 2nd Level ELI must have
one of the following:
- A Teacher's certificate
for Elementary or Secondary School. - A TESOL/TEFL Certificate
comprised of a minimum of 100 course hours. - A Master's degree. - A Bachelor's degree
with at least one year of full time English teaching experience
at accredited institutions or a Bachelor's degree with 50 weeks
experience with public school.
Third Level ELI
A 3rd Level ELI must have basic qualifications listed at the
beginning of this section.
ACCOMMODATION
A leased house/apartment as well as some basic household goods
will be provided by the School. Utilities are not included and are
the responsibility of the employee. Employees should recognize that
arrangements may vary among each host institution. If housing is
unavailable to the employee, a rent subsidy will be provided in
lieu of accommodations.
TRANSPORTATION
All transportation will be provided for each participant from
the place of residence to Korea, to the orientation site, and to
each School, and also a return ticket back to his or her homeland
when the contract has been satisfied. A round trip ticket to their
homeland will be provided for renewing members. By the end of the
orientation period, airfare from your country to Korea will be provided
by public school. Airfare will be in a form of a loan to the employee by
the employer, to prevent early termination of contracts. If
you purchase a round trip ticket, you will be reimbursed for half
of your airfare by the end of the orientation period and the other
half will be paid when your contract ends. It is advisable to shop
around for the best fare and to purchase your ticket in advance.
Please consult with the Korean Embassy/Consulate where you applied
for the best possible routing and fare.
TAX EXEMPTION
All participants, except Canadians, will be exempted from paying
Korean income tax for the first two years. In order to be
tax exempted, you are required to submit documents below to your
supervisor within the first month of your employment.
- An Application Form(provided
by your supervisor) - A copy of Residence
Certificate(issued by the competent authority - Revenue Office of
your resident country)
If you have already worked more than two years in Korea, you
will not be eligible to be exempted. This can be a great benefit
since, for example in the USA, a person declared single with no
dependents might be responsible for a third of one's income as tax.
Canadian participants will be responsible for approximately
2-4% of their income as Korean income tax depending on the level
of employment, since there is no tax treaty between Canada and Korea.
VACATION & PAID LEAVES
A total of 14 working days will be provided as official vacation
days, to be taken 7 days during each semester with agreement from
your employer. An additional paid two-week vacation will be provided
between contracts for renewing members.
Employees will be off during all Korean national holidays.
OTHER PUBLIC
SCHOOL ATTRACTIONS
- Half of medical insurance,
which is approximately 2.155% of an employee's salary(the total
medical insurance premium is about 4.31%), will be paid for by the
employer. Medical insurance will allow you to get medical attention
and prescribed medication at a fraction of a cost. - The pension fund
is a payment implemented by the government to protect the employee
in case of a tragedy or retirement, which are the only cases the
money is refunded to the employee. This fund is comprised of 4.5%
borne by the school, and another 4.5% payment borne by the employee,
deducted from monthly pay. - Round trip airfare
for visiting their home country (not exceeding two weeks) will be
provided for employees who renew their contract. - Public school members who
complete the 1 year contract will be entitled to receive severance
pay. - All first level ELIs
(English Language Instructors) renewing after two years of service
with the same employer as first level ELI will be entitled to special
allowance of 200,000 Korean won per month.
